Scuba diving:
your underwater excursions

Scuba diving in Favignana arouse scuba divers interest as they experience the excitement to enjoy the uncontaminated nature of the island
sub

Punta San Nicola: 30 metres North of the cape are 8 metres deep waters with a cave covered with red sea anemones and big oyster shells.

It is a lovely site to take a shot in.

Cala rossa and Punta Marsala: 50 metres far from the string between Cala rossa and Punta Marsala is a 12 mt deep underwater archeological site rich in ruins from the war in the Egadi archipelago between the Romans and the Phoenicians in 241 B.C.

Secca del Toro: Its depths vary from 6 mt to 40mt. The only way to get there is sailing from a little bay in the east of Punta Lunga for 2.4 miles setting the course due 194°.

Scoglio Palumbo: It is between Secca del Toro and the islet of Preveto. It's an interesting place for scuba-shooters as here lies a wreck.

Right in front of it stands the inlet of Passo sheltered from the north wind.

Cala Rotonda: The inlet east side falls sheer into the sea and it is rich in red sea-fans and lobsters. Perfect place to take shoots in. Its shallows offer many caves up to Punta Sottile: some of them are totally underwater and some others are surfacing. Important non-migratory fishes swim among its indentations.

Secca Furitana: It lies about 1.5miles far from Punta Ferro, setting the course due 346.5° . It offers a rocky seabed 17/20 m deep. It is rich in greater amberjacks, Sea fans and Poseidonion beds.

Punta Faraglione and Secca Sciubba: They lie in the core of the Favignana marine reserve. The Punta Faraglione seabed degrades from rocky to sandy for 50mt to the north where Secca Sciubba shows a 12mt to 20mt deep seabed and a very big cave with a sort of exit tunnel.

Crystalline waters host sea anemones and poseidonia alga meadows together with umbrines, white breams and lobsters.

scuba diving near tuna-fishing plants is an amazing experience: just let you drive by professional scuba-divers, you will see the tunas “Tonnaroti” will harpoon during the “Mattanza”.
